In 1987, Switzerland’s most famous clown Dimitri was awarded the Doron Prize for his school for acrobatics, dance, juggling, pantomime, theatre improvisation and voice coaching. The educational path lasts three years and at the end the scholars receive a diploma with which they usually receive attractive offers from theatres and circuses worldwide. This type of education is exceptional in Europe. The „Scuola e Teatro Dimitri“ in Verscio wants to expand and become a broad theater which incorporates all types used in theater, such as the Commedia dell’Arte, acting, music, acrobatics and dance. Today the „Scuola e Teatro Dimitri“ is part of the technical college „Scuola Universitaria Professionale della Svizzera“ (SUPSI) located in the Italian part of Switzerland.
This is one example of the many projects which have been supported in the area of culture by The Swiss Foundation for the Doron Prize.
