In 1999 the Doron Prize was awarded to the Swiss Organization for Therapy Dogs (Verein Therapiehunde Schweiz).
The Organization for Therapy Dogs in Switzerland helps the mentally and physically handicapped, the ill and the elderly, improving the quality of their lives with dogs. Owners are taught how to best establish dog-patient relationships. Some patients reside in homes for the aged or psychiatric institutions, others are Alzheimer sufferers. The therapy has proved to be equally rewarding for dog owners, for patients and the animals themselves. Similar projects abroad are based on the Swiss model.
This is one example of the many projects which have been supported in the area of science by The Swiss Foundation for the Doron Prize.
